Consisting of Brett ‘Shyboy’ Shannon, Steve Monty, Shane Fifield and Tim Young, LONGREACH exploded onto the music scene and has supported such artists as Shannon Noll, Diesel, Adam Brand, The Pigs, Travis Collins and McAlister Kemp. RICHARD PERSO

The Entertainment Marquee

Richard Perso doesn’t seem to have enough arms, legs or lungs to pull off such a physically demanding performance but that doesn’t stop him from playing 3 didgeridoos, driving a weapons cache of 4 overdriven acoustic guitars and somehow managing to replace the roll of a drummer with little more than his 2 feet. Australian cultural heritage mixed with blues, rock and folk influences. As just a 20 year old, Richard is quickly establishing himself with appearances at more than 65 festivals including all of the major Australian music festival, recording in New York and touring USA and Canada. As a winner of the 2007 Bush Idol competition Richard has been catapulted onto stages all over the country.

He played his first Festival at the age of 15, won a string of competitions and awards at the age of 16, played at the Adelaide International Guitar Festival and the National Folk Festival by 17. He recorded his debut album in New York City which was released in March 2010. During recent performances , Richard has been voted by Festival goers as on of the most popular acts, outranking may of the headline acts.

From humble beginnings and whip cracking obsessions, this dynamic duo comprising of S.T. Ruth (better known as Struth) and  her sister Little B-Ute ( formally known as Betty Angela Ursula Trudy Elvis Doug Ruth) have packed up their truck and are heading down the road to your place.

Having grown up in the southern, most eastern tip of central, north-western tablelands high plains country, just 200 kilometres straight down the road from the middle of nowhere, these two sisters have an enormous love of the Australian bush and relish in the art of being true Aussie scrubber-larrikins.

Not only passionate about the art of the Australian Stockwhip, these two ladies have a full swag of unique pranks, death-defying stunts and studdly stock including their infamous stock horse Blaze, their brilliant bull Barry and their turbo charged, miniature motorbike Roger.!  Enjoy as they dance, flip and flap through their shows and don’t be surprised if they take to the skies with their aerial circus antics.

Cattle Dog trialling is a fast growing Australian sport demonstrating the amazing training and skill required by a stockman’s and his best friend. This highly competitive event will bring out the best in owners and their dogs over two rounds of competition to decide the winner of the Champion  Cattle Dog of 2012 Man From Snowy River.

ANTHONY RENNICK: Whipcracking

Master Whip maker Anthony Rennick concentrates on making matching pairs of competition whips but also supplies whips for a variety of uses.  For the last two years he has participated in whip making demonstrations at the Stockman’s Hall of Fame at Longreach Qld and will be demonstrating the art of whip making at the Man From Snowy River Bush Festival in Corryong this year. Anthony has also very kindly donated whips to this year’s Challenge competition for the Junior and the overall winner.

Apart from demonstrating the fine art of whipmaking on site, Anthony will also run a Whip Crack competition for young, old, experienced and beginners…anyone can enter:

Bush Poets begin warming up their best yarns and poems in preparation for the 2013 Victorian Bush Poetry Championships – this very entertaining program will continue throughout the weekend.

The Challenge Competitors start to gather for the fray of the highly renowned “Man From Snowy River Challenge”.  Vying for a piece of the $60,000 prize pool in this most testing 3 day horsemanship. A 6.30am start tomorrow and continues throughout the weekend, culminating in the dust busting excitement of the Finals on Sunday afternoon.

Festival Official Opening Cocktail Party:  Located at the Arts & Photography Display- Complete with entertainment from the Crackenback Band, you get to preview the new and exciting artworks of regional artists.

FRIDAY 5th April 2013

The Man From Snowy River Challenge is well underway at the Recreation Reserve.

The Re-enactment:  Banjo’s famous poem is re-enacted live at Thougla valley, when the “Colt from Old Regret” gets away and the local mountain horseman gather to the fray to bring him back.

Riley’s Riders meet the crowd at the Re-enactment after their four days traversing the rugged terrain riding from Tom Groggin Station commemorating Jack Riley’s contribution to the Banjo’s poem.

Bush Poets continue their best yarns and poems in preparation for the 2013 Victorian Bush Poetry Championships – this very entertaining program will continue throughout the weekend.

Bush Markets:  The main street of Corryong comes alive with an amazing array of stalls with all their goodies.

Street Parade: Riley’s Riders lead the amazing array in the Street Parade into town at 3pm, this highly coloured spectacle is not to be missed.

Man From Snowy River Museum – Jack Riley Remembrance Service – a moving and historical account of some of the last days of Jack Riley.

Attree Park KIDS PARTY: at 3.30pm to keep the evening cracking along with crowd participation a feature on the evening. Entertainers will include The Crack Up Sisters, The Animal Wranglers with balloons & face painting.  bring your chair, picnic blanket, sit back and enjoy.

ANZ High Country Station Muster – Good natured rivalry??  Maybe, witness a day on the station …in fast forward as local property hands their versatility, agility and speed as they race against each other and the clock to be the best stockmen team in the Mountains.

ACTION, ACTION, ACTION:  FRIDAY NIGHT RODEO:  Dust busting, bone cracking action of Gill Bros Champion Rodeo stock vs. Champion Open Rodeo professionals.

Wind down (or Up) at the Bar after the Rodeo with Pete Denahy and Lochie Cosser keeping the music going to entertain.

High Country Ute Muster- This weekend is all about horse power… Utes from all walks of life, shapes and colours… accompanied by a DJ to keep the atmosphere pumping!

Entertainment Marquee: Many shows over the weekend: Banjo’s favourite look alike – Geoffrey Graham presents his latest entertaining show.  Some of the line up for this year is Fanny Lumsden & The Thrill Seekers, Danny Phegan & Longreach, Vendulka Witchta,  Richard Perso & more.

Whipcrack Competition:  Open to contenders, age sections, so bring your whip and your best repertoire of whip handling skills. Also, watch the lost art of whips being cut out from a hide of leather and then plaited into the finished product.

Clowns and Comedy Capers with Animal Wranglers: The amazing training, tricks and horsemanship skills will keep you amused and intrigued as Barry and Lochie put their troop through the hoops over the weekend.

Working Cattle Dog Demonstrations: Steve Condell will up the ante with his working stock dogs over the weekend. Demonstrations of dogs working with cattle, Steve will demonstrate the finer points on how to get the best out of your working dog.

Historic Machinery and Tractor Pull Demonstrations: Horse power of all sizes will be on display over the weekend including a working Clydesdale team of horses.

“High Country Busking” Competition:Tune up your guitar, dust off your pipes, pick your spot and away you go…. its all good fun! $300 prize pool for the best busker over Friday and Saturday.

“Aussie Bush Idol Competition“: Over $2000 in prizes, our Bush Idol competition produces the rising stars of the future… great entertainment and a good place to start.

Saturday Night – “Country Rock Concert “: The Rising Stars of the Snowy Mountains will be on show to open our Country Rock Concert. Good family format will kick off at 5pm with the Finalists from our own Aussie Bush Idol Talent Quest to decide the winners for 2013 with a guest appearance by The X-Factors 14 year old Vendulka. Then sit back and enjoy Fanny Lumsden & The Thrill Seekers followed by our special guest, renown country artist Adam Harvey will perform his multi award winning hits followed by Danny Phegan’s Longreach Band to rock it into the wee small hours.
