RILEY’S RIDE
An Epic Trail Ride through the Snowy Mountains
Since 1989 people from far and wide who share a love of the Australian bush and spectacular mountain scenery have come together for Riley’s ride.
It is a challenging and character-building experience where life-long friendships are forged.
This highly acclaimed trail ride commemorates Jack Riley’s life and the part he played in the early days of the district. The ride traces the last journey of this legendary Upper Murray stockman. Jack met Banjo Paterson in 1890 when he reputedly became part of the inspiration which led to the penning of “The Man From Snowy River”, Banjo Paterson’s epic ballad.
Our four day trail-ride covers mountainous terrain with several very steep climbs and descents. Riders and their horses should have a good level of fitness and be well prepared to limit the chance of injury.
Traveling through remote and difficult to access areas, only reached by horse or foot, is just part of the adventure. Current ambulance cover is mandatory.
On average we travel 30kms a day, that’s between 5 to 8 hours in the saddle each day. Riders break into groups of about 8 horses for most stages of the ride.
Non riders can also enjoy the experience as a Rider’s support crew.
